Join FIGY Travel's teaching program in Mwanza, Tanzania and make a meaningful difference in the education of children in need. Our teaching program provides an opportunity for volunteers to assist in local schools, where classes are often large and understaffed. As a volunteer, you'll gain valuable teaching experience by leading classes of helping local teachers with lessons in a variety of subjects. You may also have the chance to work in a school for students with disabilities, who need additional support to succeed.

In Mwanza's low-income communities, daycare and kindergarten facilities are bustling environments where many families rely on for childcare while they are at work. By volunteering, individuals can lighten the workload of local staff and enhance the care provided to preschoolers.
As a volunteer in childcare, you'll support underfunded and under-resourced schools and kindergartens. Your role includes:
• Assisting in teaching
• Caring for children
• Organizing games and activities
• Assisting with feeding and mealtimes
• Engaging with children, and
• Performing other duties as needed
As a volunteer, you're allowed to bring educational materials like books and pencils, basic first aid supplies, and musical instruments to support activities and entertain the children. These items can usually be purchased locally in Tanzania, contributing to the local economy.

More than half of all children and teens do not meet minimum proficiency standards in reading and mathematics. Quality education provides an opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment and is key to preventing poverty, securing long-term employment and improving quality of life.

• You must be a minimum of 18 years old
• All volunteers must either present FIGY Travel Foundation with a clear criminal background check (or "VOG") before departing
• Adequate (travel) insurance coverage is mandatory for all FIGY volunteers
• Proficiency in English is expected of all volunteers
• Recommended travel vaccinations (Hepatitis A, DTP, Yellow Fever). Please check with your local government.

Mwanza Lake View Farm ("MLVF") is our own eco lodge on the beach – 20 kilometers from the center of Mwanza – and with beautiful views over Lake Victoria and Saanane National Park

Kick-start your volunteer journey with a warm welcome from our local staff, who will escort you to the project and introduce you to the team.
Weekdays
A Typical Volunteer Day:
7:30 AM- Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the restaurant of Mwanza Lake View Farm.
8:30 AM - Commute to your placement and get ready for a day of impactful work. Schedules vary depending on the xchool and placement.
12:30 PM- Enjoy a well-deserved lunch break. Take the time to head back to Mwanza Lake View Farm. Relax or do some sightseeing, and prepare for the next day.
19:30 PM - Wrap up your day with a delicious dinner at the Mwanza Lake View Farm restaurant, before heading off to bed.

For animal lovers, Tanzania is the ultimate destination. When you're not volunteering, immerse yourself in the beauty of the African wilderness and discover the Big 5 - lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos - and countless other species that call Tanzania their home.
In Mwanza, the adventure continues! Explore local markets, museums, and workshops, where you can learn to make a traditional chair. Take a scenic boat tour, visit Juma Island, marvel at the massive Big Rock or Bismark Rock, witness the production process at a Kitenge factory, or delve into the history of the gold mines. Endless possibilities await you in Mwanza."
